Liudmila Lokaichuk is a lyric coloratura soprano distinguished by her ability to interpret
exclusive repertoire—works that demand a strong artistic personality and virtuosic vocal
control. She was nominated as Young Artist of the Year in the OPERNWELT yearbook for
her performance in the title role of Effi Briest by Siegfried Matthus (Staatstheater Cottbus,
2020), a role written especially for her. The same publication had previously listed her in
the category Singer of the Year for her debut as Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos (Oper
Halle, 2019).
In the 2024/2025 season, she takes on all three leading female roles—Olympia, Antonia,
and Giulietta—in Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann at the Saarländisches
Staatstheater. In 2024, she celebrated a triumph as Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos at
Teatro Verdi in Trieste, a role she had already performed at the Saarländisches
Staatstheater, the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, and the Opéra de Limoges. In
2025, she returned to Teatro Verdi to shine as Blonde in Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem
Serail.
During her tenure as a full ensemble member at the Saarländisches Staatstheater,
Liudmila Lokaichuk performed a wide range of roles, including Morgana in Alcina, Norina
in Don Pasquale, Violetta in La Traviata, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, and Konstanze in Die
Entführung aus dem Serail. In 2024, she also appeared as Ortlinde in a concert
performance of Wagner’s Die Walküre at the Opéra Royal de Versailles.
Previously, she was a member of the ensemble at Oper Halle, where she debuted as Inés
in Meyerbeer’s L’Africaine, Oscar in Un ballo in maschera, and Donna Anna in Don
Giovanni. She made her debut at Oper Leipzig as the Italian Singer in Strauss’ Capriccio,
conducted by Ulf Schirmer, performing alongside Camilla Nylund.
From 2016 to 2018, the young soprano was a permanent member of the ensemble at the
Staatstheater Cottbus, where she enjoyed success as Blonde, the Queen of the Night,
and Zerlina.
After completing her vocal studies at the Mussorgsky Conservatory in Yekaterinburg
(graduating in 2011), she joined the ensemble of the Chelyabinsk State Opera, where she
performed roles such as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, Liudmila in Ruslan and Lyudmila,
and Antonida in A Life for the Tsar. She made her debut as Gilda in Rigoletto in 2016 at
the Ural Opera House.
Her first artistic engagement in Germany was at the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg
Festival, where she debuted as Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia in a production by Frank
Matthus and under the baton of Stefan Sanderling. In 2015, she also performed Violetta in
La Traviata there for the first time.
Liudmila Lokaichuk was a prizewinner at the 2nd International Vocal Competition Ocean
Classical Award in 2013, performing with the Philharmonie der Nationen under the
direction of Justus Frantz. She also won second prizes at the Concorso Lirico
Internazionale Santa Gianna Beretta Molla (Milan) and the Concorso Lirico Internazionale
XXII Premio Cleto Tomba (Bologna).
On the concert stage, she performed with the orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin at
the Berlin Benefit Opera Gala, singing as a young soloist alongside Edita Gruberová and
Klaus Florian Vogt. Several years later, she again shared the stage with Camilla Nylund at
an opera gala concert with the Saarländisches Staatsorchester under the baton of
Sébastien Rouland.
